Join the League of Women Voters of Kent County on Wednesday, October 12 at 5:15 p.m. at the Kent County Public Library, Chestertown, for a free film and light refreshments. “Iron Jawed Angels” tells the true but little known story of a group of passionate and dynamic young women, led by Alice Paul (Hilary Swank) and her friend Lucy Burns (Frances O’Connor), who put their lives on the line to fight for American women’s right to vote. Along the way the women endured harassment, prison time, hunger strikes, and solitary confinement, deprivations that should be remembered today as we prepare for the next presidential election.
The event, which will end at approximately 7:45, is free and open to the public.
Citizens are reminded that the last day to register to vote in the upcoming election is Tuesday, October 18. Early voting in Kent County will take place Thursday, October 27 through Thursday November 3, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, at the Kent County Public Library, 408 High St., Chestertown.
Election Day is Tuesday, November 8.
