Ultrafaux, is a Baltimore based all-original acoustic ensemble that draws inspiration from legendary guitarist Django Reinhardt. They perform original acoustic music with Romani, Manouche, swing, funk, blues, and musette influences. The band is a powerful acoustic trio with two guitars and an upright bass. Sami Arefin and Michael Joseph Harris trade dazzling leads and harmonize together on rich gypsy-inspired guitar melodies. The dynamic Eddie Hrybyk on upright bass holds down the steady swinging pulse and brings his passion for improvisation to the group.
The members of Ultrafaux also perform with Hot Club of Baltimore. When they decided to branch out and perform their own original music, they became Ultrafaux. They followed up by raising funds through Kickstarter for the recording, CD, Vinyl LP, and to help fund a music video shot by local cinematographer John Benam.
Ultrafaux was recently invited to perform at Django By The Sea in Maine, and the Midwest Gypsy Swing Festival in Madison Wisconsin and their original song, Latcho Dromo was recently chosen by acclaimed producer of Hot Club Records, Jon Larsen, to be featured on Django Festival #9, an international compilation of gypsy jazz music.
The Mainstay (Home of Musical Magic) is the friendly informal storefront performing arts center on Rock Hall’s old time Main Street.
