Chestertown, MD (August 3, 2016) The Board of Directors of The Humane Society of Kent County, Inc. elected new officers, including a new president and secretary, at its recent board meeting. Richard Keaveney, of Kennedyville, was elected president. Susie Hayman and Charlie Hawkins, both of Chestertown, were re-elected Vice President and Treasurer, respectively. Rock Hall resident, Louise Durocher, was elected secretary.
The board and staff are committed to improving the infrastructure of the shelter and developing sustainable funding sources to do so. Executive Director, Jane Welsh, highlighting the need for a broader strategic plan, remarked, “It is no secret that our current facility is undersized and in need of constant repair, preventing our shelter from having the programs and services needed by our community”.
Board president Richard Keaveney, the current owner of “Poor Richards of Chestertown” and sales associate at Cross Street Realtors, is a successful entrepreneur and business investor from Philadelphia, with years of experience in not-for-profit board service and leadership. In the recent past, Richard served as board chair of MANNA, a nutrition delivery program for people with life-threatening illness, and co-chair of Broad Street Ministry, a hospitality program for homeless and vulnerable persons in Philadelphia. Richard and husband James Brown live on the Sassafras River with their two adopted cats Max and Rex.
Over the next several months, Executive Director Welsh looks forward to sharing with the community a needs assessment and visionary plan for our beloved Humane Society of Kent County.

Congratulations to the new Board. I have made this suggestion before, it would be nice if a notice was sent out when your dogs license is about to expire. I have forgotten on a number of occasions over the years and feel sure I am not the only person who has had this happen to them.
