It’s that time of year again! The Garfield Center for the Arts is gearing up for the wild summer romp of ten-minute plays, known as Short Attention Span Theatre. This year’s engaging selection of plays features many faces familiar to local theatre fans, as well as some actors who are new to the stage!
“The great thing about SAST is that it affords the opportunity for novice actors to get a taste of performing without making the time and energy commitment required by a full-length play,” said Diane Landskroener, associate producer of the 2016 show. “Of course, we’re very fortunate that some of the area’s best actors also love being part of this always unpredictable, always entertaining performance.”
Featured actors in this year’s play fest are: Kayla Klugman and Mike Cades in Pumps; Amanda Fry and James Diggs in Untitled Number Two; Jen Friedman and Melissa McGlynn in Gel Us; Brad Chaires and Howard Mesick in Superiority Complex; Tessa Schut, James Diggs, Erin Cooper, Connor Quigg and Severin Schut in The Beautiful Ogre and Other Fairy Tales; Heather Oland, Hester Sachse, Paul Cambardella and Brad Chaires in Talking Cure; Melissa McGlynn and Howard Mesick in Bake Off; and Jen Friedman and Jennifer Kafka-Smith in Reveal.
Produced by Short Attention Span Theatre regulars Diane Landskroener and Mark Sullivan, this year’s plays run from the thought-provoking to the absurd. Topics range from making tough decisions (jogging or wine?), to appreciating art (and fabulous shoes), to the afterlife and what exactly goes on in a superhero’s mind.
Directing shows this year are Bryan Betley, Sarah Crump, Tia Glomb, Diane Landskroener, Jim Landskroener, Hester Sacshe, Mark Sullivan, and Keith Thompson.
The twelfth annual ten-minute play festival opens Friday, June 24, and runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday through July 10.
Don’t miss “Hey, Wait A Minute!”, the one minute plays directed by Bonnie Hill, which will be performed on the Kohl Lobby Stage on June 24th at 7:15pm and July 1st (First Friday) at 5:30pm.
Performances are 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. on Sundays. Tickets are $15 and $5 for students with ID (plays include some adult content, and may not be suitable for children under 13). Call 410-810-2060 or visit www.garfieldcenter.org.
