New and Used Bluegrass is a longtime favorite Eastern Shore bluegrass band rooted in bluegrass and friendship. They play classic, straight ahead bluegrass with hot instrumentals and great harmony vocals.
At its core are two members who have been friends since high school – Ed Finkner on guitar and vocals, Toby Price on mandolin and vocal. Along with Alan Breeding on banjo, and later Jon Simmons on fiddle and vocals, they have played for fun and in various bluegrass groups over the years.
Martin Wirtz is the latest addition to the band, on vocals, guitar and twin banjo and they have been fortunate to have Brian Irwin, Cody Finkner, Mike McBride, and David McGlashan as guest bass players.
Ed Finkner lives near Longwoods, Maryland (near Easton) and plays guitar and sings lead on many of of the New and Used Bluegrass songs. He is a Civil War enthusiast, as well as being a big fan (along with Alan) of “Andy of Mayberry” or “Mayberry RFD”. Alan Breeding lives outside of Greensboro, Maryland, plays banjo with the group and keeps them straight on our bluegrass facts and lyrics. Toby Price lives near Preston, Maryland and plays mandolin and sings lead and baritone. Jon Simmons lives near Greensboro, Maryland and plays fiddle and sings lead and tenor.
The Mainstay (Home of Musical Magic) is the friendly informal storefront performing arts center on Rock Hall’s old time Main Street. For information and reservations call the Mainstay at 410-639-9133. More information is also available at the Mainstay’s website https://www.mainstayrockhall.org.
