Rooted in the spirit of Delta blues, and originating from the heartland, guitarist Aaron Moreland and harp player Dustin Arbuckle bring their trio to the Garfield Center for the Arts on Friday, June 12. The concert is the third of six in this year’s Chestertown Blues Series.
The two have been performing together for a decade, in various configurations, from blues-rock to what Arbuckle describes as, “electrified Mississippi blues mixed with a sludgy, jam-oriented rock thing.”
With the addition of drummer Kendall Newby, they have crafted an intriguing and original sound of guitar, harp, and drums. Moreland’s arsenal includes Telecaster and Les Paul guitars, and a hand-made instrument consisting of four strings stretched across a cigar box. It’s a gritty, electrified descendent of the cigar box guitars played by countless Delta bluesmen of the early 1900.
Expect to hear inventive lyrics and hypnotic, compelling music: from low-slung Delta blues to barn burners, boogie woogie, elements of rock, and a hint of twang, all based on the blues. Video and audio can be found at www.morelandarbuckle.com/multimedia/.
Addition concerts in the Chestertown Blues series include boogie-woogie pianist Deanna Bogart performing October 9. And back by popular demand, Damon Fowler rounds out the series on November 13.
Tickets for this concert and others are $30 each, $20 for students, and are available online at www.GarfieldCenter.org or by calling the box office at 410-810-2060. The Garfield Center for the Arts at the Prince Theatre is located at 210 High Street, Chestertown, MD, 21620.
