In recognition of the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War – Old Kent Chapter National Daughters of the American Revolution will dedicate a tree across from War Memorial Plaza, Chestertown on Tuesday April 21, 2015 at 12:30 PM.
On behalf of the Chapter Regent, Nancy Morris and members of Old Kent, you are cordially invited to attend the dedication ceremony and participate in the placement of the plaque which will honor those who served.
The public is welcome and we urge veterans and their families, especially those who served during this era, to join us in the dedication. Maryland Massey is the Old Kent Chairman, DAR Service to Veterans Committee and Vietnam War Commemorative Partners program.

As a Vietnam veteran I think that what they are doing is OK. But it is a little to late for a lot of my brothers who came back and had the “harry charismas” throw feces on me and my fellow “Corpsman”, who trained to save lives, both ours and the enemy. A lot of “Viet vets don’t want to talk about it. I am one for sure.

I think you must consider war memorials as an attempt to sanitize old events for presentation to future citizens. “Honoring those who served” without mentioning any details is OK as far as it goes. How can anyone begin to apologize for the tragedy of American involvement in Vietnam?
Not blaming the troops would be a first step….the tree might be accepted in that way.
