The Spy took a field trip to Lewes and Rehoboth Beach on Sunday afternoon and sent in this report:
There were a few intrepid (foolish?) surfers in the water at Lewes, the entrance to Cape Henlopen State Park was blocked off, and gate closed at Cape May ferry terminal; service is suspended through Tuesday at least.
A number of shops on the Avenue were boarded up in Rehoboth, where there is a mandatory evacuation in effect as of 8 pm Sunday. The combination of fierce wind gusts and driving rain kept all but a few off the beach and boardwalk. The Spy noted CNN, Fox News and NBC affiliate TV trucks in town, and on the return trip passed a long line of National Guard vehicles headed east on Rte 1.
