The Garfield Center for the Arts has officially launched its search for the organization’s next Executive Director as part of a planned leadership transition announced earlier this year. The position was posted on September 8, and the Board of Directors is actively seeking candidates to lead the organization into its next chapter.
Current Executive Director Steve Arnold will conclude his tenure at the end of 2026 following a year-long transition process developed in partnership with the Board. The search is designed to provide ample time for recruitment, selection, and onboarding, including an overlap period to ensure continuity for staff, volunteers, patrons, and community partners.
“The Garfield Center is a vital community arts institution, and we are excited to begin identifying the leader who will build on that,” said Mark Sullivan, President of the Board of Directors. “We are looking for someone who embraces our mission, understands the importance of community engagement, and can help advance the long-term sustainability and impact of the organization.”
The Executive Director will provide strategic, financial, and operational leadership for the Garfield Center and its home, the historic Prince Theatre. Responsibilities include fundraising and development, financial management, community partnerships, organizational leadership, and oversight of artistic and educational programming. The Garfield Center serves more than 10,000 audience members annually through theatrical productions, concerts, educational programs, special events, and community partnerships.
“The Garfield Center has become a cornerstone of arts and culture on Maryland’s Eastern Shore because of the dedication of so many people over the years,” said Steve Arnold. “I am confident the Board will find a talented leader who can continue that work and help the organization grow in new and exciting ways.”
The Board encourages qualified candidates from arts, nonprofit, educational, and community-serving organizations to apply. Leadership experience, fundraising success, strong financial management skills, and a commitment to community engagement are among the qualifications sought for the role.
“This search represents an exciting opportunity to shape the future of a beloved community institution,” said Natalie Hagan, Board Secretary. “We are seeking a leader who values collaboration, understands the power of the arts to bring people together, and is eager to work alongside our dedicated staff, volunteers, donors, and patrons.”
Applications are being accepted on a rolling basis. Additional information about the position, qualifications, and application process is available at www.garfieldcenter.org/
