Letter to the Editor: Trump is Ruining Our World

Trump is ruining our world.

And we are letting him.

Why is it not being shouted from the rooftops in plain language? Trump is a crook and a liar.

We all know this.  He is pardoning for pay.  He is enriching his family and his cronies at the expense of people who work for a living, and whose voices he has taken away through the subterfuge and complicity of people like Senate Leader John Thune and House Speaker Mike Johnson, whose rationales for cooperating few can fathom.  Perhaps they are under threat or being blackmailed or just plain power hungry.  It doesn’t matter why they collude, only that they are colluding.  These are the bad guys.

Trump is killing people, listening to Netanyahu and MBS whisper in his ear that someone (he, Trump) is finally being savvy enough to control the age-old complexity of the Middle East.  Knowing, because we know he was told, that Iran is not a genuine threat, Trump has given Iran an opportunity to prove that any country with a supply of drones and a fanatical government can kill innocents from shadows and dark corners.  No single Trump yes man, fawning in the now gilded Oval Office, could give good advice going in or is now capable of giving good advice about getting out.  Incompetence abounds and is outing itself.  Trump is making it up in real time and our sons and daughters are going to die.

Trump’s noisiest and most camera-ready acolytes are on steroids, literally.  We all know this.  Kennedy’s decisions are going to kill our children, and Hegseth is destroying our honor.  At least they both have great haircuts.  Pistol Pete is incompetent, misogynist, racist, and transparently insecure, proven by his pulling two black and two female Colonels off the promotions list for no good reason.  Worries about climate change ignorance, bias against science, and immigration brutality don’t even make the headline list of dangers.  They won’t destroy us tomorrow.  But Trump might.

The oil price is up, and Americans are trading off food for gasoline.  The Straits of Hormuz are closed and the US Navy no longer has an adequate mine clearing capability.  No one wants to help us because we are the aggressor and the brigand and the international pariah. No country can have a partnership with this Commander in Chaos.  Have you looked at any foreign media?

Name another disruptor who has managed to cause so much damage so fast, destroying generations of accepted behavior with little more than a self-serving smirk and a dismissive swat at history, plain human goodness, and the rule of law.  Putin? Saddam Hussein? Milosevic?  Trump is the champ, and the chump who has put billions into the pockets of Russia and Iran.

Trump is a crook and a liar.  We all know this.  When did we last allow someone to get so close to ruining the world?  What is Congress doing?

Being actively complicit is the answer, enabling Trump to hijack its sole authority to make war and raise revenue.  There may be some looking to curtail this illegality:   Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski is drafting legislative language that would require Congress to approve or disapprove or relinquish their power to make war. Similar legislation forced out Johnson in 1968.  Today, such a direct challenge to Trump’s recklessness would wreak havoc in the White House and Pentagon.  Show us more of your leadership and gumption Senator Murkowski…pull in a strong Democrat from the Armed Services Committee.

It’s on bumper stickers all over town: ‘Someone has to do something’.  This weak Congress and the American people must act up and lead at the ballot box in November. Saturday’s rallies say we have the numbers.  Why is Trump so scary to the Congress? He’s just a crook with a mean-hearted base of the self-serving rich and self-destructive poor.   We all know this.  We also know that his base is shrinking.  Lets’ speed it up.

  1. The daily horror coming out of this administration, the grift, incompetence and cruelty are all part of their fascist playbook. Now they want to nationalize elections as a final coup to solidify power. As a person recently said:

The lying, gaslighting and belligerence of Trump and his thugs is beyond fantastical. What we are witnessing is madness that beggars belief, and puts to shame the propaganda of history’s most terrifying regimes.

This is why we fight them and never give up.

    1. sorry Deirdre, i beg to differ. Trump hardly fits into the definition of fascist.. a word thrown around by people who don t even know what it means. In fact the lying and gaslighting is hallmark of the Democrats though you would never know since you probably only watch network news controlled by liberals. the Democratic party seems to playing into the the Maoist playbook.. keep the masses poor and dependent/ control the narrative insocial media(admitted by Zuckerburg and Meta) control and indoctrinate the youth.. well demonstrated by teachers unions controlling what is taught to our children… gender studies for 3rd graders, CRT to maintain racism and division in society/ control your money.. tax the heck out of you/ take away your weapons/ the well financed riots by foreign entities. So Deirdre check these facts if you would like and if your ok with them then I shall pray for America

      1. Not all Fascist movements are the same because they are Reactionary, reacting to current domestic and foreign affairs. Germany was “reacting” to communism, as was Italy, in the 1930s.
“Proud Boys” are reacting to Civil Rights in our nation. So there are similarities and differences
with Fascism. The traits that bind them all together are very much apart of this regime’s ethos:
Dissent is betrayal, Fear of difference, obsession with conspiracies, Pacifism is collusion with the “enemy”, rhetoric such as “the enemy within” and “poison the blood”, undermining the Judiciary and
the concentration of power, loyalty to Leader not Constitution, war on education because an educated free thinking electoric is a threat to their power, packing the government with not experts but sycophants
to lead cabinet and under secretary positions….
I could go one but I won’t because with some people facts are a threat.

  2. The last formal declaration of war by the U.S. Congress as required by the Constitution — i.e., by law — was not against Nazi Germany in 1941, but in 1942 against Hitler’s Axis allies, Bulgaria, Hungary, and Romania.

Ever since, U.S. citizens, the Constitution, and Congress have been shamefully dismissed and ignored. For the past 84 years, American soldiers by the thousands have been killed and wounded in undeclared — and for the most part unsuccessful and stupid— wars, from Korea in the 1950s, to Vietnam in the 60s and 70s, to Iraq and Afghanistan from 2001 to 2021, to Iran today. And, dare I mention the billions upon billions flushed down the collective toilet?

  3. Mr Frick…this is the second time in several months (that I can recall) when you have replied to long and thoughtful articles in The Spy with a 6 word meaningless reply. Where are YOUR facts to counter the opinions of these articles you believe are content free of facts? So easy to pass judgement without holding yourself accountable in the public domain. The facts are in reputable newspapers, for starters. And are also found in the history books. Nancy Di Marco

  4. Those who choose to put their heads in the sand and ignore the trampling of the Constitution will be very sad when the lawless thugs are finally held to account. Every day is another horror committed by this administration, with the acquiescence of a spineless Congress. It is a fact that US citizens have been shot in the name of immigration enforcement. It is a fact that the economy is in a shambles due to an illegal and poorly though out war. It is a fact that Trump is all over the Epstein files yet has not answered to these disgusting crimes. It is a fact that he has destroyed the White House in his quest for gold plated immortality. And I could go on.

  5. I have never seen such a display of Trump Derangement Syndrome. Such a diatribe of emotional non factual emotional hyperbole.
Let us not forget or deny that the Democrats had an insidious design on destroying our democracy. First off , they endorsed a marginally inferior candidate(Biden) for President whose whole career was a plagiarized act culminating in dementia making the perfect ” puppet” for the handlers to do their thing. thats when the spiral started for this country.Open borders(you have no country)…..this leads to a more serious discussion later…. protection of illegals over US citizens/ anti police policies . In case you havent noticed, the Democrats are falling right into Maoist ideology…. your democratic leaders thinking the proletariate(general public) are stupid and easily controlled. Mao believed in controlling social media.. a given fact (admitted by Zuckerburg and Meta)He believed in indoctrinating our youth—-teachers unions introducing gender studies on 3rd graders/ calling parents domestic terrorists/surveillance on Catholics…even violating Campus Free Expression Act on college campuses by prohibiting them from spreaking( or outright murder them)These are facts folks, not your emotional hyperbole.
Our military has been transformed from woke , gender sensitive , pronoun proper allowed to attend drag party pansies.. to a warrior fighting machine exemplified by our insurgents into venezuela and Iran..demonstrations of incredible skill and achievement. Oh BTW Biden attacked Syria and Obama attacked Libya so stop your tongue wagging.
The democrats have introduced and endorsed cultural wars in the form of violent riots and civil disturbance with assaults on public atatues, heritage sites and icons. They are destructuring secondary and tertiary curriculum in schools, controlling books in libraries/ controlling health services and police.
Now you want no ID to vote.. but in NYC you need two forms of ID to shovel snow… i wonder why? is it to keep the door open for fraud.?. just like mail in voting. DEI was extremely dangerous promoting unqualified people because of skin color not merit… would you want that in your pilot .. or doctor?.
But the most serious and insidious activity goes back to the initial travesty of open borders and illegal immigration supported by democrats. This is the establishment of diaspora politics. These enclaves ;mostly Islamic are trans national communities that define themselves as singular ethnic groups based on their shared identity.. I doubt they pledge their allegiance to the United States and have no intention of assimilation but on the contrary….. dissemination of Islam Are these enough facts for now folks? Wake up America

    1. I think it’s terrific that the Spy has decided to publish these long winded rants from our Trumper
friends, even though they are obviously ill tempered and very angry. The editor could easily decide that they don’t belong in a family newspaper. But it’s OK… It allows the rest of us to see their authors through clear light. Not thoughtful and reasoned, but aggressive, defensive, and contrary to fact

    2. Excuse me for interrupting your farcical analysis of “wokeness” and your
“made for Murdoch news” assessment of what you believe about the illegal voting that is a total myth, trans people, school curriculum, and the attack against Catholics. So curious as your new Pope is an ardent critic of this regime. But perhaps you are the Catholic type who abhors the 21st century? You know, the same people who fill maga churches and believe baby Jesus played with dinosaurs? And women should be breeders with no bodily autonomy?

Thought I’d share a letter sent by the US Government to combat troops in WW11, I believe only in the European theatre. It is prescient to what is happening today in the USA:

On March 24, 1945, the topic for the week was “FASCISM!”
“You are away from home, separated from your families, no longer at a civilian job or at school and many of you are risking your very lives,” the pamphlet explained, “because of a thing called fascism.” But, the publication asked, what is fascism? “Fascism is not the easiest thing to identify and analyze,” it said, “nor, once in power, is it easy to destroy. It is important for our future and that of the world that as many of us as possible understand the causes and practices of fascism, in order to combat it.”
Fascism, the U.S. government document explained, “is government by the few and for the few. The objective is seizure and control of the economic, political, social, and cultural life of the state.” “The people run democratic governments, but fascist governments run the people.”
“The basic principles of democracy stand in the way of their desires; hence-democracy must go! Anyone who is not a member of their inner gang has to do what he’s told. They permit no civil liberties, no equality before the law.” “Fascism treats women as mere breeders. ‘Children, kitchen, and the church,’ was the Nazi slogan for women,” the pamphlet said.
Fascists “make their own rules and change them when they choose….
They maintain themselves in power by use of force combined with propaganda based on primitive ideas of ‘blood’ and ‘race,’ by skillful manipulation of fear and hate, and by false promise of security. The propaganda glorifies war and insists it is smart and ‘realistic’ to be pitiless and violent.”
Fascists understood that “the fundamental principle of democracy-faith in the common sense of the common people-was the direct opposite of the fascist principle of rule by the elite few,” it explained, “Islo they fought democracy…. They played political, religious, social, and economic groups against each other and seized power while these groups struggled.”
