Mark your calendar!!! This year’s dates for the popular Local Color Art Show and Sale AND Free Demonstrations are July 20 through July 23.  Working Artists Forum (WAF), with the patronage and support of Plein Air Easton (PAE) Competition and Arts Festival, is pleased to sponsor this well-known annual art exhibit during Plein Air Easton.   The public is invited to this free art show, opening reception and demonstrations.

The juror for the show was Zufar Bikbov, second-place winner of Plein Air Easton 2022, a full-time artist and art teacher since 2017, who teaches painting in the studio and online at www.russera.com.  His art can be seen at https://www.zufar.com. WAF was very pleased to have Zufar jury this year’s Local Color artists.

This year’s judge is Charlie Hunter, 2022 Grand Prize winner at Plein Air.  Hunter’s work examines the pressures of modern urban and suburban culture upon small-town and agricultural communities. His work is in multiple collections and museums and can be seen at https://www.hunter-studio.com

Judging will take place prior to the opening on July 20th.  The public is invited to attend the show and the opening ceremony and award presentation held at Christ Church, 111 S. Harrison St., Easton.  The doors will open at Noon on July 20th with the reception.

Zufar Bikbov, juror, was the second-place winner of Plein Air Easton 2022. Rounding the Mark by Carol McClees

Working Artists Forum (WAF), under the auspices of the annual Plein Air Easton (PAE) Competition and Arts Festival, sponsors the art exhibit Local Color during Plein Air Easton.

Each year artists who are either members of WAF or reside in the Delmarva area apply to a jurying process to enter this well-attended, prestigious show held each year during Plein Air Easton.

The participating artists are those who have been juried into the show.  This year’s juror was ZufarBikbov who was the second-place winner of Plein Air Easton 2022.  A native of Russia, Zufar was influenced by his father’s unrealized dream to become a professional artist. He trained from the age of 9 at Zelenodolsk Youth Art School in Kazan in the Russian realism tradition. His passion for oil painting and the dynamic nature of the plein air art form has led him to avidly explore first Russian and then American landscape for over three decades. Zufar became a full-time artist and art teacher in 2017. He teaches painting in the studio and online at the www.russera.com. He is the recipient of countless plein air awards. In 2022 Hunter won the Grand Prize at Plein Air Easton as well as First Place at Door County Plein Air, and Best Body of Work (Artists’ Choice Award) at Smoky Mountains Plein Air. Charlie is a nationally recognized painter of the post-pastoral American landscape. His distinctive, low-chroma work, heavily reliant on a mastery of values, edges, and composition, utilizes a variety of moderately unorthodox techniques. Growing up in rural New England, the son of a small-town printer, Hunter’s work examines the pressures of modern urban and suburban culture upon small-town and agricultural communities. The show, which is held at Christ Church, 111 S. Harrison St., Easton, opens its doors at Noon with an award ceremony and the public is invited to attend.

Painting by Barbara Zuehlke “Peonies”

Working Artist Forum Artists (WAF) will Hold a Judged Art Exhibition at Kent Island Federation of Arts from April 6th through May 4th, 2023.

The exhibit will be judged by Brad Ross, an award-winning Plein Air painter and popular drawing and painting instructor at the Academy Art Museum in Easton. Co-chairpersons of this exhibit are WAF members Maureen Wheatley and Georgette Toews.

Three Judge’s Awards of Excellence Awards will be awarded by WAF at a reception on Thursday April 13, 2023 from 5 to 7 pm. In addition, a Memorial People’s Choice Award will be given and announced by KIFA at the end of the show.

During this exhibit period a Featured Wall of Remembrance of art will be displayed in honor of deceased WAF Artists.

WAF Members are practicing artists with a high level of education, expertise, and experience in the visual arts.  The professional expertise of WAF members is fostered through programs, group critiques, demonstrations, workshops and member exhibitions.  More information on WAF and its members and events can be found at www.WorkingArtistsForum.com.

KIFA is a non-profit organization that for 60 years has supported artists of all ages and experience on the Eastern Shore through exhibitions, education and events celebrating all the arts. WHAT TO ENTER FOR JURYING?  Enter images of your best original two-dimensional work that are Studio or Plein Air Paintings in the mediums of acrylic, watercolor, oil, and pastels. Again this year, the Working Artists Forum is very pleased to announce they will again be presenting gift cards to the art departments of 33 area elementary schools.  These contributions to the schools are due to a very successful Local Color Art Show at Christ Church during Plein Air Easton 2022.  Forty-two artists were juried into Local Color and exhibited their art for sale.  A portion of the sales are earmarked for the school gift card program.

The schools that will soon be receiving $150 Dick Blick gift cards are in the counties of Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Talbot, Queen Anne, and Worcester to the following schools:

The 5 elementary schools in Caroline County are Denton, Federalsburg, Greensboro, Preston, and Ridgely Elementary.

The 7 schools in Dorchester County are Choptank, Hurlock, Maple, Sandy Hill, S. Dorchester, Vienna, and Warwick Elementary.

In Kent County the 3 schools are Galena, HH Garnett, and Rock Hall Elementary.

There are 5 schools in Talbot County to include Chapel District, Easton, St. Michaels, Tilghman, White Marsh.

Queen Anne’s County 8 elementary schools include Bayside, Centreville, Church Hill, Grasonville, Kennard, Kent Island, Matapeake,  and Sudlersville Elementary.

The 5 schools in Worcester County are Buckingham, Ocean City, Pocomoke, Showell, and Snow Hill Elementary will receive the gift cards, making a total of 33 schools.

Members of WAF volunteer to schedule the delivery and presentation of the gift cards to each of the art departments of 33 schools as part of WAF’s endeavor to further enhance the art experience of its students with this additional funding.
