PLAY SUMMARY

A single personal ad inadvertently draws four middle-aged singles together when Val and Andy arrange to meet on a blind date, dragging Nina and Matt along for moral support. High romance and contagious laughter are the result.

Written by Norm Foster, LOOKING is the story of four middle-aged singles who are seeking relationships while navigating life’s pitfalls. Andy and Matt are long-time buddies looking for surefire ways to meet women. Val and Nina are best friends forever looking to meet men. Val is an OR nurse, Andy is in the storage business, Nina is a police officer, and Matt is the host of a morning radio show. Val agrees to meet Andy at a bar, and Nina and Matt are coaxed into joining their friends for support. Their relationships progress through the following weeks, setting off laughable plot twists and an unexpected hookup. Cleverly written, funny and insightful, Looking shows us we don’t always get what we set our sights on, but what we end up with can be an unexpected surprise.

Alison Lynch will be directing LOOKING. Readings will be selected scenes (sides) from the script provided during the audition. You can reach Alison by text at 410-476-7437 or by emailing mrslynch1004@gmail.com for any special accommodations.

Tred Avon Players Presents MOON OVER BUFFALO April 20-30

Tred Avon Players presents MOON OVER BUFFALO, a wild, wacky and hilarious comedy. The show runs April 20-30 and will be performed in partnership with the Oxford Community Center at 200 Oxford Road, Oxford, Md.

Written by Ken Ludwig and directed by Tim Weigand, MOON OVER BUFFALO centers on George and Charlotte Hay, fading stars of the 1950s. At the moment, they’re playing Private Lives and Cyrano De Bergerac in repertory theater in Buffalo, New York with five actors. On the brink of a disastrous split-up caused by George’s dalliance with a young ingénue, they receive word that they might just have one last shot at stardom: Frank Capra is coming to town to see their matinee, and if he likes what he sees, he might cast them in his movie remake of The Scarlet Pimpernel. Unfortunately for George and Charlotte, everything that could go wrong does go wrong, abetted by a visit from their daughter’s clueless fiancé and hilarious uncertainty about which play they’re actually performing, caused by Charlotte’s deaf, old stage-manager mother who hates every bone in George’s body.

The Fantasticks is the longest-running musical in the world, a timeless fable of love that manages to be nostalgic and universal at the same time. Its moving tale of young lovers who become disillusioned, only to discover a more mature, meaningful love is punctuated by a bountiful series of catchy, memorable songs, many of which have become classics.

The Fantasticks is a funny and romantic musical about a boy, a girl, and their two fathers who try to keep them apart. The narrator, El Gallo, asks the audience to use their imagination and follow him into a world of moonlight and magic. The boy and the girl fall in love, grow apart and finally find their way back to each other after realizing the truth in El Gallo’s words that, “without a hurt, the heart is hollow.”

Tred Avon Players Audition Notice for The Great Gatsby

June 16, 2021 by Tred Avon Players

Share

The Tred Avon Players are getting back on stage with a glamorous, full-scale production of The Great Gatsby, opening this fall.

Auditions for The Great Gatsby are scheduled for Sunday, July 11 at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, the 13th, and Wednesday, the 14th, at 7:00 p.m. at the Oxford Community Center, 200 Oxford Road, Oxford, MD.

The performance dates are October 28, 29, 30, and 31 and November 4, 5, 6, and 7 at the Oxford Community Center.

Note: All cast and crew members must be vaccinated.

The Story:  Jay Gatsby, a self-made millionaire, passionately pursues the elusive Daisy Buchanan. Nick Carraway, a young newcomer to Long Island, is drawn into their world of obsession, greed, and danger. The breathtaking glamour and decadent excess of the Jazz Age come to the stage in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel and Simon Levy’s adaptation, approved by the Fitzgerald Estate. The Great Gatsby is directed by John Perkinson and produced by John Norton.

The Cast: Includes five women and seven men. All parts are open, and no parts are pre-cast. Cold readings are from the script. Copies of sides will be available at auditions. Hairstyles appropriate to the period will be required during the show.

Jay Gatsby – male, mid-20s – mid-30s: A young romantic idealist millionaire with shady business connections. His disarming smile opens doors, but there’s only room in his heart for one girl, Daisy.

Nick Carraway – male, mid-20s – mid-30s: A focused and optimistic newcomer to New York and West Egg looking to make his way in the bond market. His gentle manner exudes upbringing but not pretension.

Daisy Buchanan – female, 20s – 30s: An attractive young debutante from Kentucky, she is the quintessential “Flapper.” Her “party girl” attitude tries to hide her shallow and self-absorbed attitude.

Tom Buchanan – male, mid-20s – mid-30s: An imposing athletic figure that demands attention be paid. His money and arrogance swept Daisy off her feet and kept mistresses at his beck and call.

Jordan Baker – female, mid-20s – mid-30s: An amateur golfer of some acclaim with her sharp sarcasm wrapped around an aloof attitude. Her modest fame strikes an attractive chord for Nick at Daisy’s urging.

George Wilson – male, late-20s – late-30s: A completely helpless husband to Myrtle, his desperation to please her leads to his blindness of her affair with Tom.

Myrtle Wilson – female, 20s – 30s: A fierce exuberance to rid herself of this disappointing marriage, she finds her ticket out in the form of Tom Buchanan.

Meyer Wolfsheim – male, 50s or older: A gambler that would bet on two cockroaches racing and juice his long shot when the other guy wasn’t looking.

Mr. McKee – male, late 20s – late 30s: An amateur photographer who satisfies his passion with his young wife.

Mrs. McKee – female, 20s – 30s: An exhibitionist for her doting husband

Policeman – male, late 20s – early 40s: A professional law enforcement officer

Mrs. Michaelis – female, late 20s – early 40s: The nosy neighbor next door.

Tred Avon Players Workshop on Auditioning for a Play

October 15, 2019 by Tred Avon Players

Share

Have you ever attended a play at Tred Avon Players or another community theatre and thought “That looks like fun, I wonder if I could do that?” Have you always wanted to try your hand at acting but have been nervous about actually trying? For anyone interested in getting on stage for the first time, or getting back on stage after a long time, TAP will hold a workshop on “How to Audition for a Play” at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, October 29 at Oxford Community Center, 200 Oxford Rd.The program is free, and intended to be both fun and informative.

“How to Audition for a Play” will cover a variety of subjects, including: how to find out when local community theatres hold auditions; how to obtain copies of plays; determining what role to audition for; the fundamentals of preparing yourself for an audition; and the practical aspects and logistics of auditions. Participants will then have an opportunity to take part in a just-for-fun (but fairly realistic) practice audition, doing “cold readings” of dialog from various plays. The workshop will be run by Lynn Sanchez and Brian McGunigle, both of whom have extensive experience on stage with TAP and other local theatre groups.

From TAP’s perspective the training session is timely, since auditions for the first show in the company’s 2020 season – Charley’s Aunt– will be coming up on Wednesday, November 6; Thursday, November 7; and Monday, November 11 at 7:00 pm at Oxford Community Center, 200 Oxford Rd.

Director Allison Lynch anticipates casting six men and four women people in that show and hopes the cast will include some newcomers to the stage.

Anyone interested in attending “How to Audition for a Play” should contact Brian McGunigle at mcgunigle.brian@gmail.comto reserve a spot.
