Carol Stock Kranowitz

Carol Stock Kranowitz

Radcliffe Creek School is pleased to announce that international speaker Carol Kranowitz will visit the school on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public as part of a grant received from Family and Community Partnerships of Kent County.

More than 600,000 copies of Kranowitz’s book, The Out-of-Sync Child have been sold and she has spoken across the world helping families and professionals understand Sensory Processing Disorders in children. She will offer teachers and families practical strategies for the classroom and home.

What is sensory processing and why is important for parents and educators to learn more? Sensory processing is defined by the Sensory Processing Disorder Foundation as, “A term that refers to the way the nervous system receives messages from the senses and turns them into appropriate motor and behavioral responses. Whether you are biting into a hamburger, riding a bicycle, or reading a book, your successful completion of the activity requires processing sensation, or ‘sensory integration.’”

According to the American Occupational Therapy Association, more than 50 studies on the efficacy of sensory integration have been conducted and support that better understanding of sensory integration and sensory processing can improving academic skills, motor development, and socio-emotional behaviors. Furthermore, sensory integration has been positively correlated with academic achievement in elementary school children and negatively correlated with juvenile delinquency.

Read more about Carol’s work at www.out-of-sync-child.com. To RSVP for the event, please call 410-778- 8150 or e-mail [email protected].

Radcliffe Creek School is pleased to announce that it will be launching an
