Tourism Spending Rises to $76.4 Million in 2025, Reflecting Strong Growth and Increased Visitor Volume

Tourism in 2025 continued to show strong, steady momentum as total visitor spending reached $76.4 million, marking another year of economic expansion for Kent County’s visitor economy. This increase builds on $74.3 million in spending in 2024, which represented a 3.4% rise over 2023.
In addition to higher spending, the region welcomed significantly more travelers. Visitor volume increased by 4.1% from 2024 to 2025, highlighting growing interest in local attractions, events, and hospitality businesses.
The growth in 2025 reflects healthy, sustained performance when compared to recent and historical trends:
• 2024: 3.4% growth
• 2023: 0.2% growth
• 2022: 5% growth (post‑COVID rebound)
• 2017: 1.9% growth
• 2016: 2.4% growth
Long-term data further demonstrates how dramatically tourism has expanded over the last decade. Visitor spending stood at $12.6 million in 2012, increasing to $63.9 million in 2019 before the pandemic. Today’s 2025 total of $76.4 million reinforces that the region has not only recovered from COVID‑19 disruptions but continues to surpass pre‑pandemic performance.
“Tourism remains one of Kent County’s most reliable economic drivers,” said Shalyn Boulden, Tourism Manager, Economic and Tourism Development. “The continued growth in both spending and visitor numbers reflects the strength of our destination and the dedication of our tourism partners who work tirelessly to welcome visitors year‑round.”
“Ms. Boulden has played a significant role in this continued success. Her strategic initiatives, commitment to diversifying Kent County’s marketing efforts, and dedication to elevating the county’s visibility as a destination have attracted new audiences and strengthened visitor engagement year‑round. Her leadership ensures that Kent County reaches broader markets while showcasing authentic local experiences,” said Jamie Williams, Director of Economic and Tourism Development.
Support from the State of Maryland continues to contribute to this momentum. Resources provided to Destination Marketing Organizations across the state help enhance promotion, expand outreach, and improve the overall competitiveness of local destinations.
