Our Flashback Photo this week is of a familiar landmark in Chestertown: Stam’s Hall. The photo is undated, but the entrance to the Lyceum Theatre indicates that it was taken after 1909, when the “old” Lyceum Theatre opened as Chestertown’s first movie theatre, with a ticket price of five cents. The New Lyceum opened in 1928 in the building which we now know as the Garfield Center for the Arts. Stam’s Hall still stands watch over High Street and Memorial Park although you can no longer see a movie there. Image courtesy of the Historical Society of Kent County.
