As the need for community-based arts programming support continues to grow across the region, the Kent Cultural Alliance (KCA) is evolving the way it supports local organizations. To better focus its resources and organize its impact, KCA’s Board of Directors has recently approved transitioning its Project Grant application process from a rolling basis to two distinct application cycles each year.
This move ensures that the KCA can continue its primary mission of putting the arts to work through engagement, education, and connection. By organizing applications into specific windows, the KCA can more effectively steward the funding that brings transformational arts programs to every corner of Kent County.
The transition to a semi-annual review process is designed to focus and organize the KCA’s support more effectively, ensuring a more equitable and streamlined experience for community-based organizations across Kent County. The two new cycles cover the full calendar year:
- The May Cycle: For projects occurring between July 1 and December 31, 2026, applications are accepted from May 1 through May 31, 2026.
- The November Cycle: For projects occurring between January 1 and June 30, 2027, applications are accepted from November 1 through November 30, 2026.
The deadline for the upcoming May Cycle is Sunday, May 31, 2026, at 10 PM. Applicants in this inaugural cycle will receive notification of their awards by mid-June, ensuring local organizations can move forward confidently with their summer and fall programming. Applications are reviewed by a rotating committee of Board and community members.
Over the last several years Project Grants have supported organizations such as Main Street Rock Hall, Town of Galena, Minary’s Dream Alliance, The Kent County Fair, Fall Fest, Chestertown Tea Party Festival, The Museums of Kent, and many more. KCA’s budget for Project Grants has grown to $20,000 per year with grants covering up to 50% of a specific project’s budget up to $1,000. For this upcoming year, the KCA will reserve half of the total funding for each cycle – allowing for up to $10,000 in Project Grants in each half of the year. Any funding not disbursed in the May Cycle will roll over to the November Cycle.
Project Grants remain a cornerstone of the KCA’s mission to support public community events. These grants are available to community-based organizations producing arts or culture-related projects that are open to the public. To ensure funds are directed toward creative engagement, grants are not awarded for political or advocacy programs, religious services, or events where the sole purpose is fundraising.
In addition to the new application timeline, the KCA is introducing updated guidelines for Project Grant reports. These reports will help tell the story of the arts in Kent County by documenting the reach and success of each funded project. Detailed reporting guidelines will be provided to all organizations upon grant approval.
Project Grant Guidelines are currently available to all interested organizations on the KCA’s website at www.kentculture.org/grants. The application will be available at the same link beginning May 1, 2026.
The Kent Cultural Alliance is eager to help all applicants throughout this transition. For those needing clarification on the new cycles or technical assistance with the application software, KCA Deputy Director Hester Sachse is available to help at 410-778-3700 or via email at hester@kentculture.org.
