Please vote for Aretha Dorsey, a home grown Kent County native determined to serve the children of Kent County Public Schools BETTER. Aretha Dorsey is a mother, grandmother, wife, self-employed, hard working Minister who believes all children deserve an excellent education.
Aretha Dorsey understands that for children to be successful in school ALL of the adults in their lives must be effective at communicating. KCPS needs to develop a better communication system that builds cooperation and understanding between students, parents, teachers and administration in each of the county schools in order to help each child develop their individual skills that will enable them to learn, and to continue to learn over a lifetime.
There is a lot of resource in Kent County and I’m not going to sugar coat this: Five Kent County public schools served 1,812 students during the 2022 school year. Kent County Public Schools released a preliminary budget of $30.4 million for fiscal year 2023. Here’s a snapshot of the most recent performance indicators I found on Maryland State Board of Education’s website msde.md.gov for the elementary schools in Kent County, 4.6 points out of 10 for “Progress in Achieving English Language Proficiency” should not receive a check mark as anything less than 50% is what we math teachers call FAILURE.
PLEASE vote for Aretha Dorsey who is willing and able to build better communication between children and adults in this community in order to provide ALL children with the skills vital to develop their self confidence, which leads to personal achievement and a bright future.

Ms. Kerr, why should I vote for Ms. Dorsey?
There is nothing you have shared that says she is qualified from an education, life experiences, or leadership perspective. Being a mother and grandmother or even a business owner does not mean you have what it takes to make a difference on the Kent County Board of Education nor does the recognition that the current situation is awful. I watched the LWV forum and found nothing that separates Ms. Dorsey from the rest of the candidates in a positive way; however, I would consider whatever you have to offer in the way of substance that supports your plea to vote for her. The desire to do good is an awesome quality, but the demonstrated ability to get positive results is what I am looking for.
Please do share why she should be elected to this position!

Mr Eric Thomas I feel as though ms Aretha dorsey is more than qualified for the position. She is not just any mother, grandmother or business owner. She is a mother who has raised 3 children to adulthood dealing with Kent County school systems, dedicating her own time volunteering sitting in classrooms, assisting students, walking the halls and talking with students. She has also been a business owner in this community of 2 businesses for years. She has taken time to interact and give to the local community every year. She sees and understands the struggles that are not only in our county but in our school system. Her business gives away food to the less fortunate many times yearly as well as the holiday dinners she gives away to senior citizens, people who are sick or just are in need of a meal serving kent county and Queen Anne’s county residents. Ms Aretha Dorsey is also the co pastor at her local church. She is an awesome leader who is very knowledgeable. You should have a conversation with her sometime you may find yourself inspired. If anyone should be elected it should be her. SHE HAS MY VOTE!!!

My name is Juanita Demby was a instructional assistant in the Kent county school system for years,I’m replying to why you dont think Aretha Dorsey would be a good addition to our school board .I have known her for over 40yrs she has fought for better education for her kids and for many kids in the community in which we need parents to do, with kids graduating below average academic level.
Aretha Dorsey is the kind of womanwe need to bring new ideas to this board to help our struggling kids she bring fresh ideas to this board and the community with her compassion for each student.

First let us address “Mrs” Dorsey correctly. She is very well involved within the community and her goals are to make a change. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and you feel how you feel; however, thankfully your only one vote. She will continue to make a difference whether is elected or not. So understand me when I state “you will continue hearing the name Mrs. Aretha Dorsey. You be blessed.

Thank you all for your feedback. I am not sure how my question of “WHY?” was interpreted as I was against Ms. Dorsey since I made no negative comments about her. I don’t know her and since I don’t know her, I was trying to learn more about her. The way to learn is to ask questions. Ms. Kerr did not provide enough information for me to vote for Ms. Dorsey, but I was open to hearing more so I asked.
A well-informed electorate is needed to build a democratic society, paraphrasing Thomas Jefferson. Generally speaking, if you are trying to persuade someone to do something you need to include the answer to the Why question as part of your persuasion.
I would hope you don’t ever vote for a candidate just because someone told you to.

I voted for Mrs. Dorsey because, to me as a parent,
I would love having her involved in children’s education.
It really is that simple

THANK YOU Kent County VOTERS for putting ARETHA DORSEY on the ballot for the School Board this November!
Mr. Thomas, clearly you don’t have to recognize a local minority woman who built her own businesses as qualified for a seat on the School Board simply because I recognize Aretha Dorsey’s outstanding character, capabilities and dedication to serving children.
