Given that Gen. Robert E. Lee’s statue has been removed from its pedestal in Richmond, Va., the former capital of the Confederacy, surely the Talbot Boys figure can be removed forthwith from the Easton courthouse grounds! And for the same reasons: it’s an anachronistic symbol of white supremacy and a daily affront to all who seek a fair and just society.

There is no equivalency to Mr. Whitmans continuing complaint about the “Boys” statue. Mr Whitman does not seem to understand the much broader historical significance of the history behind the “Boys” and the much deeper emotion involved by the creators of the tribute to all those that served on both sides of that conflict and the many lives lost, on both sides, which then ultimely lead to the abolishment of slavery. Much has been said and written on the matter and the depth of all that history, which lead to the commissioning of the “Boys”. To those that favor the “knee jerk” reaction, I suggest you resist and spend some quality time immersing yourself in some of that rich history. It’s shameful that it took so long to remove the R.E. Lee statue from its Richmond pedestal. It’s even more shameful that the Talbot Boys is still in place.
