Mid-Shore Food Notes: Yelp Says Marlena’s in Middletown is one of the Top New Restaurants in US

Share

The Spy was taken by surprise this morning when it was noted that Buzzfeed used Yelp’s Top USA list to highlight that Marlena’s Mediterranean Deli in Middletown, DE. was to become a destination restaurant.  Yelp determined Marlena’s standing by using an algorithm that takes into account the number of reviews and star ratings for every new restaurant.

We are eager to hear from Spy readers if they agree with this assessment. In the meantime, you can find Marlena’s on 10 West Main Street in downtown Middletown.

    Mmmm
We took the opportunity to visit the Deli after seeing the article in the Spy.
For such a tiny place, two tables inside with seating for five people, it delivers BIG taste. It is run by a family from Syria. The son covers the front with his mom creating the dishes in the back. The falafel are huge and filled with extra flavors that differ from Israeli falafel. The green salads are fresh and also backed with flavor. Turkish coffee and three different Baklavas are the perfect meal ender. Mom makes the classic style bakalava. Fattoush salad is on the list for the next trip there as well as some baba ganoush.
    Ample parking in the back.
    Enjoy.

The best! Ever! This is a little gem shining brighter every day! The food is fresh made by Mama and the shop is run by her son and daughter! Hands down delish! Shawarma is to die for and the baklava and Turkish coffee will have you coming back for more! A must go place to eat! Just walking in the door you get the feel of a new and wonderful experiance!
