Join the Chestertown PFLAG Chapter (Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) at the Garfield Center for the Arts on November 19th as they celebrate the Transgender Day of Remembrance: An Evening of Peace, Love, Hope and Understanding . This is a time to honor the memory of those who, while bravely expressing their true selves, have been killed as a result of a hatred or fear of transgender and gender non-conforming people. The Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) brings attention to the continued violence endured by this population worldwide.
While the recent nationwide spotlight on transgender related topics has made it easier to find information, some sources continue to communicate misinformation and fear-based ideas, which reinforce existing discrimination. In this time of rapid social change, it is most important to continue to work to learn about and from our LGBTQ communities. PFLAG Chestertown serves the mid and upper Eastern Shore of Maryland offering education, mutual support and equality-based advocacy to everyone willing to participate. Educational information will be available at the theatre during the event on the 19th, as well as on the PFLAG website.
The evening will begin at 7pm with a Vigil of simple meaningful tributes, followed by related performances chosen to continue PFLAG’s mission of education, support and advocacy for our LGBTQ communities. Our goal is to leave you with hope, peace and understanding that will empower our community to make our world a better place to live with dignity and respect for all.
The event is free. Doors open at 6:30pm. No reservations or tickets are required. A tax deductible donation of $10 is suggested for our local PFLAG Chestertown Chapter.
We thank our Supporters and our Partners: The Rosie O’Neill Literary House, Community Mediation Upper Shore (CMUS), and the EROS and TaNGO Clubs of Washington College.
