A coalition representing 350 Kent County businesses and organizations have unified as a lobbying group to seek $1.5 million from Maryland’s Capital Budget to help complete the restoration of the Town’s waterfront.
Downtown Chestertown Association president and Coalition spokesperson Kristen Owen presented an outline of the coalition’s Chestertown Waterfront Initiative to the town council during their meeting Monday.
Owen cited significant economic impact projections when the waterfront project is completed, from creating new jobs and increased tax revenues to the creation of new businesses for marina and marine trades and support for the growing festival economies.
“We’re representing so many businesses and non-profits that it makes sense for all of us to work together and make the case to the State because it’s the upmost importance to the town and county,” Owen said.
The attached pdf highlights core project components, project impacts, and an overview the State’s previous economic partnerships with the Town and County.
