Kent County STEM students traveled to Johns Hopkins University on April 23, 2016 to compete in the Maryland Science Olympiad State competition. The Maryland Science Olympiad is a “hands-on” K-12 science competition that focuses on science, technology, and engineering.

The team, composed of 15 7th and 8th graders competed in 23 science related events. These events included building machines that launched ping pong balls and Rube Goldberg devices to subjects like anatomy and food science. The team placed in 18 out of the 23 events and came in 2nd place overall in their division! This accomplishment comes on the heals of a 4th place win at the Regional Maryland Science Olympiad Tournament held at the University of Maryland, College Park on February 20th.
