Saint Martin’s Ministries Brings Back Empty Bowls Event on Feb 18

February 22, 2016 by St. Martin's Ministries

Share

Saint Martin’s Ministries will hold an Empty Bowls event on February 18, 2016 at their location in Ridgely. Empty Bowls is a 25 year old countrywide movement to help food pantries and soup kitchens. Saint Martin’s event will be in the Food Pantry located at Saint Martin’s barn, 14374 Benedictine Lane. The barn will open for Empty Bowls at 5PM with soup servings at 5:30 and 6:30 PM.

Holding an Empty Bowls event in a working food pantry will give those who attend a firsthand look at the work of feeding the hungry in Caroline County. Soup will be served in the food pantry packing room and the bowls will be from the thrift store operated by the Ministries. A bestselling cookbook intended to help food stamp recipients, Good and Cheap: Eating Well on $4 a Day by Leanne Brown, is the recipe source for the soups.

Local musician Warren Brey will provide music and guests are invited to look for bargains in the thrift store. Admission to the event is $20 and includes a dinner of soup, bread and dessert, your choice of bowl and a raffle ticket for door prizes. Some seating is still available. Tickets can be reserved by contacting Mariyah Jenkins at 410 634 2537, Extension 104.

Caroline County ranks as one of the 10 poorest counties in Maryland. Saint Martin’s Ministries has been helping families meet their basic needs of food, clothing, and shelter for more than 30 years. Supporting this event will help provide food to people in need.
