Scientists agree that global air temperature is rising. But did you ever wonder what air temperature has to do with sea level rise, increased tidal flooding, and the occurrence of severe and damaging storms? Simple—they are all linked to a warming ocean!
Dr. Via will examine a few climate change basics, and then discuss the story of sea level rise in Maryland and what the Eastern Shore and communities on the Bay can expect in coming years. Dr. Via will share some tips and online resources you can use to protect yourself and your family. Bring your laptop if you want to try them out!
Dr. Sara Via is Professor of Biology and Entomology at UMD, College Park, and she is interested in the effects of climate change on agriculture and home gardening, biodiversity, and human health. In association with the Maryland Master Gardeners and Chesapeake Physicians for Social Responsibility, Sara works with community groups, high schools and universities to increase awareness of the scientific reality of climate change and to motivate effective action to curb its rapid progression.
