Chester River Wine and Cheese will soon be offering wine by the glass on premises at their new sidewalk tables along the Cannon Street side of the building.
And, an awning is on order to provide a little shade for you, your Riesling and cheese board.
John Laucik and Jenn Baker applaud Kent County Commissioners for joining State representatives to help craft Maryland State House Bill 877, the Kent County Wine Shop and Lounge Act.
“Their creativity in solving a small business challenge will help drive sustainability of our business and enable us to hire more team members and generate additional jobs in Chestertown,” Jenn Baker said.
The couple opened Chestertown Wine and Cheese in March and cite Chestertown’s support and feedback as the key to their success.
They’ve listed a few bullet points about the wine service they will be offering:
- We’ll feature a rotating list of 8 wines, 8 cheeses, and 4-6 mustards, jams, and chutneys; pate, salami, olives and antipasto items will also be available.
- If you are passionate about a bottle we carry in our shop that is not on our by-the-glass list, all of our wines will be available with a small corkage fee to cover table service.
- We will have a mix of indoor and outdoor seating; all seating is unreserved
- We will provide table service. Just let us know when you’ve arrived and we’ll give you a hand.
- No tips for table service. Your patronage is thanks enough!
- Our hours will not initially change. Over time we may stay open slightly later on Friday/Saturday nights, like an hour, nothing major, we have residential neighbors. Our hope is that you will visit us, and then continue on to our neighborhood restaurants and drinking establishments.
“We’re also growing our business and want people to know that we’re looking to fill some part-time evening positions. Anyone interested should go to our website here.

This is very exciting! Thanks for bringing such a dynamic new business to Chestertown. My wife and I will be there to sip some wine on the sidewalk in the very near future.
