Candidates for two offices in Kent County will meet and answer questions from the public at a League of Women Voters event on Thursday, Oct. 2 at the Kent County Public Library in Chestertown. Back-to-back forums will feature candidates for the offices of Clerk of Court and State’s Attorney, beginning at 7 p.m.
Current Clerk of Court Mark L. Mumford, a Democrat, is being challenged by Robert H. Strong, a Republican. Strong is now completing his announced last term as State’s Attorney for the county, after 16 years in that office. Mumford has held the clerk’s position for six terms, now totaling 24 years in office. The position pays $92,600 annually.
The office of State’s Attorney has two men seeking what would be their first terms in that office. The candidates are Democrat Andrew C. Meehan and Republican Harris P. Murphy. Both candidates have practiced law for many years in Kent County. The State’s Attorney job pays $101,802.
The forums will follow League procedure by controlling the amount of time that candidates have to make statements and answer questions. Margie Elsberg will moderate the event.
For more information on the candidates, and all those persons running in Maryland’s November 4 election, visit the League’s special website – www.vote411.org.
