June 13, 2014 by Shore Regional Health System

Share

The College of American Pathologists (CAP) recently awarded accreditation to the laboratory at University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Chestertown. Accreditation of the lab was based upon the results of a recent on-site inspection, as part of the CAP’s Accreditation Programs.

Min Yu, MD, the laboratory’s director, was advised of this national recognition and congratulated for the excellence of the services being provided. The laboratory at UM Shore Medical Center at Chestertown is among the more than 7,000 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide.

During the CAP accreditation process, which is designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients, inspectors examined the laboratory’s records and quality control procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examined laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management of the lab facility.

“We could not be more proud of the laboratory team at UM Shore Medical Center at Chestertown for the recent CAP Accreditation,” comments Mike D’Arcangelo, MT (ASCP), DLM, MS, MBA, regional director of laboratory services, UM Shore Regional Health. “The knowledge and professionalism of our laboratory professionals is top-notch and provides benefit to our patients in the timeliness and accuracy of our testing.”

Dr. Donovan is smiling… I remember him preparing for those inspections and accreditations. He would be proud.
