Jazz on the Chesapeake Fundraiser Delivers Jazzy Cars and Jazzy Music

May 22, 2014 by Chesapeake Music

Share

Jazz on the Chesapeake, a program of Chesapeake Chamber Music, recently sponsored its annual fundraising event, Jazz in a Barn, in support of the annual Monty Alexander Jazz Festival. The evening of jazz was hosted by local residents, Gale and Henry Petronis, in their barn which featured their collection of vintage automobiles.

Lena Seikaly, one of Washington’s preeminent jazz singers, performed along with Max Murray on the bass and Wayne Wilentz on keyboard. Lena’s extraordinary voice – her range and emotion were reminiscent of Sarah Vaughn while her scat vocal improvisation took the audience back to Ella Fitzgerald.

The annual Monty Alexander Jazz Festival will be held in Easton on Labor Day Weekend, August 28 to 31, 2014, and will feature five headliners and a “Salute to Dave Brubeck.” The Monty Alexander Jazz Festival, presented by Jazz on the Chesapeake, is a program of Chesapeake Chamber Music.
