On Sun, April 13, 10 AM, Mr. Tony Hileman will give a sermon entitled “Happiness from an Ethical Culture Perspective” to the Unitarian Universalists of the Chester River, 914 Gateway Dr., Chestertown.
There is a general acceptance that happiness is a desired emotional state, but that’s pretty much where the agreement ends. Understanding and attaining it has fascinated and frustrated humanity at least since Aristotle put it forth as the purpose of life over two millennia ago. In declaring our nation’s independence Thomas Jefferson reminded us that the pursuit of happiness is an unalienable right. A century later, Dr. Felix Adler placed the circumstances of happiness at the very center of the reason-based religion he founded. Ethical Culture offers a refreshing take on the path to happiness, one that peoples of all religions, of those of no religion, can draw from.
