Save the Date(s): Sultana “Farm & Wine Paddle” in May & September

March 4, 2014 by Sultana Education Foundation

CrowVineyardTouristSultana Education Foundation and Crow Farm & Vineyard have partnered together to offer participants the opportunity to explore two of Kent County, MD’s most celebrated features: waterways and farmland.

The 2014 ‘Farm and Wine Paddles’ are Saturday, May 17 and Saturday, Sept. 27 from 10AM – 2PM. The experience starts with a guided paddle on Turner’s Creek, considered by many to be the premier Public Landing in the County. “Because of the abundance of fish in this area, there is a tremendous amount of bird activity. Some of the species we’re likely to see include heron, osprey, cormorants, and bald eagles,” said John Mann, Sultana’s Director of Educational Programs. “Our kayaks can access areas of the creek that are too shallow for other boats, giving us the ability to observe an ecosystem that is relatively untouched by people.”

PaddlepicAfter paddling the group will travel to Crow Farm & Vineyard, a 3rd generation family farm that features a farmstay B&B, a vineyard business, and pastures of grazing Black Angus Cattle. “We enjoy sharing the beauty of our wide open spaces that overlook the vineyard, winery, and grazing Angus beef,” said Judy Crow, farmer. “There is always something to see or do on our 365-acre working family farm.”

On the farm, the group will be given a tour of the winery, which will include samples of wine, beef, and other farm products.

“Through the years we’ve had great success partnering our Public Paddles with local organizations, including the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum and Mount Harmon Plantation,” said Drew McMullen, President of Sultana Education Foundation. “Teaming up with Crow Farm allows us to give people a 4-hour experience that includes so much of what makes Kent County a unique place.”
