Local attorney Harris P. Murphy is now a candidate for State’s Attorney for Kent County. He filed with the Kent County Board of Elections on Wednesday, February 5, 2014.
Mr. Murphy, 45, is a graduate of Washington College and the University of Baltimore School of Law. He served as law clerk for the Honorable Edward A. DeWaters while in law school, and then for the Honorable J. Frederick Price in the Circuit Court for Kent County after graduation. Since beginning the practice of law, Mr. Murphy has handled thousands of cases in the Circuit and District Courts throughout the state. For the last ten years he has handled only criminal and juvenile cases in Kent and Queen Anne’s counties. Mr. Murphy resides in Worton with his wife and two children.
Regarding this year’s election, Mr. Murphy said, “I am excited about the possibility of bringing my passion and respect for the law to the State’s Attorney’s Office. It would be an honor to serve as the people’s representative in the prosecution of criminal matters.” With respect to his vision for the office, he stated, “I plan to work closely with local law enforcement to improve the functioning of the prosecutorial arm of the criminal justice system. Improving efficiency there will dramatically effect both the administration of justice, generally, and the protection of the public, specifically.”
The primary election is scheduled for June 24, 2014. The general election will be held on November 4, 2014.
