Andrew Meehan, a local attorney and resident of Still Pond, has filed to run in the Democratic primary for Kent County State’s Attorney—promising to crack down on the growing heroin trade and the resulting violent crime.
“We need to take a proactive position with the alarming use of heroin and the resulting violence.” Meehan said. “I’m prepared to do what it takes to put the criminals behind bars.”
Meehan grew up in Alexandria, Virginia and graduated from University of Virginia in 1984. He earned his law degree from Washington & Lee University in 1987 and worked in northern Virginia and D.C. until moving to Kent County in 2001 to join his brother, Stephen, in private practice.
“I think the office needs some new blood and this was a good time to give back to my community,” Meehan said. “My wife and I have been very blessed to be able to raise our kids here.”
Joining Meehan’s campaign as treasurer is Alice Ritchie, a local attorney and former Kent County Deputy State’s Attorney.
“I have worked with Andy Meehan professionally and in the community since he and his family moved to Kent County, and I know him to be a highly qualified and conscientious attorney who will serve the people of Kent County well as State’s Attorney,” Ritchie said.
