Call to Artists for “Love Letters”

January 25, 2014 by Spy Desk

Chestertown RiverArts is reaching out to area artists working in any medium for submissions to a fun new exhibit titled “Love Letters” opening February 2014.

Works being sought should either convey the artist’s deep affection towards their subject matter or more directly address the expression or experience of Love in its many facets. As inspiration, artists are encouraged to think about their work as a love letter to their subject matter, be it nesting eagles, a mate, a favorite author, an inspirational leader, a cherished heirloom, or a romantic restaurant.

Screen shot 2014-01-15 at 10.14.28 AM“Our idea of Love has been mass marketed to us so much as an idealized romantic love but this exhibition intends to broaden the brush beyond the obvious romantic notions,” says William Brockschmidt, the shows Curator.

Thoughtful uses of red tonality are encouraged but in no way required. Artist statements about why their work is a love letter are also encouraged.

Check in of art for the show is Sunday, February 2 from 1 to 3:00 and Monday, February 3 from 10 to 1:00. Hanging fees for members is $10 per piece and $20 per piece for non-members.

RiverArts is located at 315 High Street, Suite 106. The opening reception for “Love Letters” is First Friday, February 7, 2014 from 5 to 8pm. Contact William Brockschmidt at [email protected] to learn more about this exciting opportunity.
