Please join the Chestertown Garden Club on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014 to learn all about bees. Bees are prolific pollinators that would benefit our garden, and the neighbors’ gardens. It is disturbing that bees are in peril due to the effects of pollution, pesticides, herbicides, parasites, diseases, and habitat loss. Learn how location, sun, air circulation, and wind protection, nearby water source and open flights path are essential.
Our speaker for this program is Dean Burroughs, a certified Master Beekeeper and a Maryland State Aviary Inspector (DOA), Past President of the Maryland State Beekeepers Association. Dean has kept bees for the past 26years, and is a third generation beekeeper. He also is managing a Commercial Beekeeping operation of 230 hives, renting bees to pollinate strawberries, blackberries, watermelons, etc. for local farms. In addition, Dean is a retired Associate Professor from Salisbury University Department of Health and Human Performance. The program begins at 11:00 am at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 101 North Cross Street, Chestertown, MD.
Bees, Bees and More Bees is open to the public. Since the bee populations are dwindling, education about what we can do as concerned citizens is very important to all of us. We hope to see you at this informative program!
