After 20 years of service to Chestertown, the Town Council on Monday voted to rename the Rolling Road Community Park after retiring Mayor Margo Bailey.
“I would like to ask the council to consider changing the name to the Margo Bailey Community Park,” said Councilman Marty Stetson, who introduced the measure. “Changing the name of the park would be a real tribute to Mayor Bailey. Anybody who comes to these proceedings knows the mayor and I have had our differences over the years…But I never doubted that anything she did didn’t come from her heart as being the right thing to do.”
“I truly believe she really served this town well and to the best of her ability,” Stetson said. “And I think it would be a very fitting tribute.”
Stetson said he wanted pass the measure before Nov. 5 election in case there was a change in the council.
Councilwoman Mabel Mumford-Pautz asked Town Manager Bill Ingersoll if there would be any hitches in renaming the park.
“No hitches,” Ingersoll responded. “It’s a very nice idea…”
Mumford-Pautz moved that the dedication take place in December.
The council passed the motion unanimously.
