On November 2nd, Former GOP Congressman Wayne Gilchrest will join Dr. John LaFerla, Candidate for Congress in Maryland District One, for a health care rally in Chestertown, MD. The event will be held at 100 N Cross Street and run from 11am -1pm. The first hour will feature Kent County healthcare navigator Philip Shank and Upper Eastern Shore Lead Regional navigator Amanda Nelson. They will answer questions about the Affordable Care Act, explain the Maryland exchange, and help residents decide which insurance plan best fits their family’s needs. Computers will be available for residents to sign up on the spot!
The second hour will include lunch, and elected officials from across the District will be discussing healthcare, jobs, and why they’re supporting John LaFerla for Congress. Scheduled speakers are Mayor Margo Bailey of Chestertown, Mayor Jim Ireton of Salisbury, Mayor Gee Williams of Berlin, and Kent County Commissioner William Pickrum. All are welcome and encouraged to attend; especially those who have questions and concerns about the Affordable Care Act and its impact on their family.
“The Affordable Care Act is a first step towards fixing our broken health care system. No other industrialized Nation spends as much as we do on health care and yet has so many uninsured. This law, which primarily addresses accessibility to healthcare, is critical for the First District. We have a large uninsured population and many families are one medical disaster away from bankruptcy,” said Dr. John LaFerla, Congressional Candidate, Maryland District 1.
Dr. LaFerla continued, saying: “However, it’s not a perfect law and does little to address the rising costs of health care in our country. As an OB/GYN and public health advocate, I’m qualified to address these issues and I’m ready to offer real, common sense solutions to help rein in our country’s out of control healthcare spending. This is one of the primary reasons I’m running for Congress and I look forward to discussing the Affordable Care Act and sharing these ideas with voters.”

Editor,
Phillip Shank and I will be at the Healthcare event on November 2nd to educated consumers and schedule appointments for enrollment at a later date. We will not be signing anyone up at the event due to time constraints and HIPAA laws. During the time of your appointment, we will be able to determine what plans/tax credits/etc you and your family are qualified for but then we let you decide which plan is best for you and your families needs. If you have questions come to the event and we’ll be glad to answer them as best as we can. Thank you!
