Dr. Couch to Appear in League Event on Schools
The new superintendent of Kent County Public Schools, Dr. Karen Couch, will take part in a program on Saturday, Oct. 26, entitled “Why We Need to Support our Public Schools.”
The session, which is co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Kent County and The Chestertown Spy, will take place at the Chestertown Town Office Building, 118 N.Cross St., and will run from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Dr. Couch was appointed the new Kent superintendent in May and took office July 1. She left the superintendency of a rural school district in New Mexico, where she had served for 12 years and won numerous awards for leadership, including the New Mexico Superintendent of the Year in 2010. Earlier in her 30-year career in education, she had been named that state’s Personnel Administrator of the Year and, as a principal, led her elementary school to a national Blue Ribbon award.

The program will address the following questions:

· What do the data tell us are challenges for the Kent County schools?

· What does the superintendent believe will make a difference?

· What more needs to happen to ensure all students achieve at high levels?

A question-and-answer session will follow the presentation.

The event is free of charge and open to the public. For further information, please contact the League of Women Voters of Kent County at 410-810-1883.
