How is your respiratory health? Anyone concerned about his or her breathing and lung function can sign up for a free spirometry screening, by appointment, courtesy of University of Maryland Shore Regional Health and its medical centers in Chestertown, Dorchester and Easton.
This free testing is offered October 21-25, which is designated Respiratory Care Week by the American Association for Respiratory Care.
Spirometry is the most common pulmonary function test (PFT). It measures the amount and/or speed of air that can be inhaled and exhaled. Spirometry is an important tool used in the diagnosis and assessment of many pulmonary conditions, including asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, cystic fibrosis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Screening appointments are being offered by appointment in morning and afternoon time slots, as follows: Monday, October 21 at UM Shore Medical Center at Chestertown, UM Shore Medical Center at Dorchester, and UM Shore Medical Center at Easton; and Tuesday, October 22, Wednesday, October 23 and Friday, October 25 at UM Shore Medical Center at Easton. The free screening takes only a few minutes and each person screened will receive a follow-up report.
To schedule an appointment for screening at any of the three medical centers, call 410-822-1000, ext. 5810.
