On Thursday, Oct. 17, The Goldstein Young Alumni Series will welcome back to Chestertown an alumna whose work for the U.S. government has put her at the heart of U.S. efforts to protect civilians from the infamous Ugandan warlord Joseph Kony.
Minty Abraham ’04, a senior program analyst in the Bureau of Policy, Planning and Learning at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), will speak in Hynson Lounge, Hodson Hall, at 5:30 p.m. Her talk is titled, “Protecting Civilians in Armed Conflict: Progress and Challenges for U.S. Policy in Uganda’s Military Campaign Against the Lord’s Resistance Army.”
After graduating from Washington College with a B.A. in political science, Abraham earned a master’s degree in international affairs from the University of Pittsburgh before entering the federal system with the United States Government Accountability Office (GAO). In 2011, she joined the USAID as the Country Development Officer for Uganda.
The crucial point of contact for issues concerning the Kony-led Lord’s Resistance Army, Abraham spearheaded the implementation of White House strategies that addressed threats to civilians in South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the Central African Republic, following the 2012 viral social media campaign against Kony.
This event is free and open to the public. It is presented by the Goldstein Program for Public Affairs’ Young Alumni Series, established in 2011 to highlight the accomplishments of talented recent graduates working in public affairs. Prior to her public lecture, Abraham will meet for tea and talk with students majoring in political science.
