The National Music Festival at Washington College is deep into planning for the 2014 Festival season, June 1-14, 2014.
The 2014 Festival will feature many of your favorite returning mentors, including Elaine Kwon (piano), Camilo Carrara (guitar), Dickie Fleisher (harp), Jared Hauser (oboe), and many more. The Festival is accepting applications for apprentice musicians, who will be selected in the spring through a competitive application process.
The Festival is pleased to announce that Maestro Hans Richter will guest conduct the Festival Orchestra on June 13 in a program including Tchaikovsky’s beautiful and seldom-heard First Symphony, “Winter Dreams.” Maestro Richter is the Chief Conductor of the Smetana Philharmonic Orchestra in Prague, Czech Republic. His great-grandfather was the famous conductor (also named Hans Richter) who premiered a number of works by Richard Wagner.
The Chester River and Frederick Chorales, along with the Singing City chorus of Philadelphia, will reunite with the NMF Symphony Orchestra this year for the Festival Finale concert. They will perform Verdi’s transcendental “Requiem” at 7:30 p.m. on June 14 at a venue to be announced.
“We’re looking forward to another exciting season,” says Festival executive director Caitlin Patton. “We’re lining up more great music for you and at least one crazy, fun event, along the lines of the tractor and harp performance from 2012 or the vegetable orchestra in 2013.”
Festival Passes are now available for purchase, and single tickets will be available in the spring. Festival Passes provide the bearer with admission to all ticketed events, a copy of the souvenir Festival Guide, and invitations to special Pass-holder-only events, including a Meet-the-Musicians reception and more. Passes are $200 each and can be obtained at www.nationalmusic.us, by mailing a check (made out to National Music Festival) to the Festival at P.O. Box 284, Chestertown, MD 21620, or by calling (410) 778-2064. Passes did sell out in 2013, so be sure to order yours early!
