Dear Commissioner Pickrum:
I was encouraged that you spoke out to the hospital authorities about the lack of birthing and pediatric facilities at the former Kent and Queen Anne’s hospital.
When I first heard they were closing those departments, I wrote to each member of the board to object.
This hospital was built by the local community to serve all of its people. It is unsafe and unhealthy to expect a woman in labor to have to go to Easton, or Annapolis to deliver her child. Have the current directors never seen the traffic backups on a summer Sunday evening? It is frightening for young children and their parents to be taken away from their community in order to be cared for.
What can our citizens do to make our hospital serve all of us, young and old?
I hear of the difficulty of attracting younger faculty ,and younger physicians to our area, and feel the lack of adequate health services for mothers and children adds to the problem.
Thank you for speaking out about this community need.
