The Chester River Health Foundation recently held its 19th annual golf tournament at The River Course at Queenstown Harbor.
The tournament was sponsored by The People’s Bank, a tournament sponsor each year since the event’s inception in 1995, and FAM&M Insurance, Inc. of Chestertown. Whiting-Turner Contracting Company sponsored the awards reception and dinner for golfers and invited guests that immediately followed the tournament.

Proceeds from this year’s event, grossing more than $83,000, will help fund two state-of-the-art rooms in Chester River Hospital’s new emergency department, which will care for patients in need of critical care, observation and/or resuscitation. Construction on this project, totaling more than $4 million, is slated to begin later this year and projected to be finished in late 2014. More than 17,000 residents and visitors of Kent and Queen Anne’s counties utilized Chester River Hospital’s emergency healthcare services last year. Nearly 45 percent of all patients in need of services from Chester River’s emergency department require the care that will be provided in the two critical care rooms.
“This year, we were privileged to hold our 19th annual Golf Tournament at the premier River Course at Queenstown Harbor,” says Mary Burton, Golf Committee Chairperson. “Proceeds from the Golf Tournament have always funded special projects and equipment for the benefit of the people served by Chester River Hospital. We greatly appreciate the participation of the golfers, volunteers and sponsors and their continued support of this event throughout the years.
“I want to thank all of the golfers and sponsors; we couldn’t do this without you. I’d also like to thank our great volunteers and staff, and the staff at Queenstown Harbor,” comments Wayne Gardner, Chester River Health System’s Board Chair. “Lots of people told me they had a great day and our volunteers and staff are the ones who make this golf tournament so successful.”
