There’s an elephant in the room just off Fountain Park. A Republican Party storefront is opening on 357 High Street, next to the former New York Deli. The storefront is a partnership between the Republicans of Kent and the Kent County Republican Central Committee.
A grand opening is scheduled for First Friday in May. The storefront is currently in the final stages of remodeling and repainting.
The Spy spoke with Dawn Jacobs, President of the Republicans of Kent, who said that the storefront will be an educational center for members of the club. The storefront will also aid with outreach to elected officials and the public, as well as serve as a place where potential local candidates can find guidance in the electoral process.
Jacobs said that a full event schedule will be released soon, with events already planned through December of this year. The storefront lease extends until December 2014.

That’s what down town needs! More politics.

It’s great for all political parties to have a base if they wish, but it would be even greater for all politics to stay off the main street of the town. High St. needs to be retail for all!
