Historic ‘Tilghman Ride” Subject of Rock Hall Lecture this Saturday Night

November 16, 2012 by Spy Desk

Share

Dr. Robert Selig will be at the Rock Hall Town Center to give a talk about the Tench Tilghman ride to Congress in Philadelphia to take them the news of the Yorktown victory. Dr. Selig is the historian for the new Washington-Rochambeau National Historic Trail and is under contract to the National Park Service for this. He will also discuss the trail itself.

The talk is at 6:30 PM in the Rock Hall Town Chanber in the Town Hall. Also the museum in the same building will be open as well.

After the battles at Yorktown Tench Tilghman sailed up the Bay, came to the Eastern Shore at Rock Hall, picked out a horse, rode to his father’s home (near Chestertown) and slept there for the night. He then left for Elkton, and onward. Dr. Selig will tell the entire story as well as the story of getting the French troops (under Rochambeau) to Yorktown through Maryland. He is one of the most compelling, fascinating speakers on early America. Once you have heard him speak you will never see the Revolutionary War, nor 1812, in the same way again!
