Eastern Shore Brewing Captures Medals at Governor’s Cup

October 18, 2012 by Kathy Bosin

St. Michaels’ Eastern Shore Brewing Company achieved two bronze medals last weekend at the Maryland Brewers Association annual State Governor’s Cup in Timonium. The only brewery on the Eastern Shore to medal, Eastern Shore Brewery recently celebrated its 4th year in business.

The Maryland Brewers Association competition awards beers in 12 categories. Most of the state’s 25 breweries are members of the association and participate in the event.

Founder Ace Moritz said that this was the second time that the brewery entered the statewide competition, and the second time they earned a medal for their brew. This year’s winners included their Belgian Golden Strong Ale and a Dunkelweizen.

Both beers are seasonal ales produced this year. Eastern Shore Brewing’s brewmaster Randy Marquis was responsible for the recipe development and brewed the beers as part of a Brewmaster Reserve Series.

The Dunkelweizen is a dark wheat ale, unfiltered, with dark fruit notes, a complex body and clove aroma notes.

The Belgian Golden Strong Ale is unfiltered, with  great grain and biscuit cheerios flavors, and notes of peppercorn. It rings in with 8.7% alcohol.

The series will continue over the winter season. The Dunkelweizen can be found in bars and restaurants across Delmarva, including Salisbury and Ocean City. The High Spot in Cambridge is among the first local establishments to carry it.

Eastern Shore Brewing offers tastings at their St. Michaels location in the town’s historic old mill complex, where all beer is brewed on site.
