Former Republican Congressman Wayne Gilchrest threw his almost 20 years of knowledge and experience in the House of Representatives behind Democratic candidate Dr. John LaFerla, who is challenging incumbent Andy Harris for the First District.
Speaking at the annual Kennedy-King Dinner in Kent County, Gilchrest said that LaFerla was the best choice to lead the First District, “if you want the House of Representatives to be more than just a rubber stamp for Wall Street or Tea Party activists.”
“LaFerla has the competency, he’s informed, and he has the depth of integrity that this country should aspire to. We have to change the tenor of the talk in the House of Representatives,” Gilchrest said.
“Knowledge is the solvent for danger,” Gilchrest said, quoting famed political journalist Norman Cousins.”And history is a vast early warning system.”
“The House of Representatives needs John’s skills, they need his integrity, and they need his heart,” Gilchrest said.
Gilchrest discussed the polarization in the House of Representatives, which he says lacks knowledge and civility.
Bob Ingersoll says
Wayne Gilchrest was the best representative the Eastern Shore ever had, from any party. He is still as eloquent, thoughtful. and incisive as he ever was on the floor of the House. A ringing endorsement for John LaFerla.
