WC Women’s Soccer Team Bus Catches Fire

August 31, 2012 by Spy Desk

Valued Chestertown Spy reader Sarah Lyle of Boxer’s Rest Farm reports that a bus carrying the Washington College women’s soccer team was on fire on South 213. No injuries have been reported.

“At approximately 11:30 pm I heard sirens and wandered out of the field at Boxer’s Rest Farm where I was harvesting tomatoes for tomorrow’s farmers market. I saw the road closed and firemen hosing down this burned out bus while the Washington women’s soccer team stood with their coach Paul Kohorn.

They were headed to a game at Randolph Macon in Va. when they had to stop because the bus was on fire. Kohorn thought it could have been hydraulics as the doors of the bus would not initially open when they tried to evacuate.”

As they waited for WC vans to come to their rescue, Kohorn said,  “I’ve been coaching over 20 years and there’s always something, but this is a new one for me.”
