The Chester River Home Care & Hospice is gearing up for its “Chester River Crab Chase”—a 5K run, walk and crab feast scheduled for Saturday, September 29, 2012, at Wilmer Park in Chestertown. All of the event’s proceeds will directly help fund local community services provided by Chester River Home Care & Hospice.
“We’re hoping to bring the community together for a day of family-fun while also providing financial support for home care and hospice,” says Louise Durocher, member of the Chester River Health Foundation Board and chairperson of the event. “Our aging population is increasing the need for home care and hospice services, and we depend on contributions from the community to ensure that every family who needs support can receive it.”
The 5K run/walk is open for all ages and athletic levels. This event is also a “Team Tri-Sports Ultimate Challenge” event. The 5K begins at 9:00 am (registration at 8:00 am) and all runners/walkers will receive a souvenir T-shirt; kiddie K is free (10 and under). 5K participants who raise $100 through sponsorships for Chester River Home Care & Hospice will enjoy free registration!
If you decide not to run or walk, that’s no problem—you can still come enjoy fresh, local steamed crabs! The all-you-can-eat crab feast is $30 per person ($10 tax deductible) and just $10 for children under 12. The delicious feast includes steamed blue crabs, sweet corn on the cob, hot dogs, cole slaw, assorted non-alcoholic beverages and desserts. Draft beer will be sold by the cup and pitcher. Also for sale will be Crab Chase T-shirts. Entertainment, games, face painting, a 50/50 raffle, corn hole and more will be offered! The event will be held rain or shine, as most of the tables will be under a tent. The Crab Chase is an excellent way to enjoy a Saturday in Chestertown or to entertain out-of-town guests and family! The event location is handicap- accessible. Eat-in only—no carry out is available.
“This is a fun, casual, community event to benefit a great cause,” commented Maryann Ruehrmund, executive director, Chester River Health Foundation. “Home care and hospice services make everyone’s quality of life better because it’s provided in the comfort of one’s own home,” Ruehrmund added.
