Big brass, Dixieland jazz & ragtime - the Peabody Ragtime Ensemble play Saturday, April 21 at the Garfield Center.
The Garfield Center for the Arts at the Prince Theatre will swing and sway when the Peabody Ragtime Ensemble brings “ragtime, Dixieland and all that jazz” to the heart of Chestertown at 8 pm on Saturday, April 21.
The Baltimore-based “little big band” of acoustic musicians has been playing to packed halls all over the country, and beyond, with great American sounds for more than 30 years, since the founders were students at the Peabody Conservatory. When they played in the nation’s capital, the Washington Post said the Ensemble “blew up a hurricane,” and when the show starts at 8 pm on Saturday, they’ll fill the High Street hall with a great burst of brass.
Peabody Ragtime Ensemble has performed with and opened for Roberta Flack, Louis Bellson, the Smothers Brothers, Eubie Blake, Alberta Hunter, Aaron Copland and the Preservation Hall Jazz band. They were honored with a Governor’s Citation for their “dedication to preserving the best of American traditional music from ragtime, Dixieland, jazz and blues band favorites,” and have toured internationally, from Copenhagen to Moscow.
