When the “doors” open at Noon on Sunday, April 29, Chestertown’s Taste of the Town (and County) will celebrate its fifth year of bringing together local chefs, foods and diners. The event will return to downtown Chestertown’s central Fountain Park, placing it in the middle of the town’s charming historic and business district.
The 2011 move to Fountain Park was a great success and generated increased interest and participation in all areas, as well as providing more visibility for the artists participating in the Quick Draw finale of the Chestertown Arts League’s Paint the Town plein air weekend.
Regular favorites such as Brooks Tavern, Fish Whistle, the Imperial Hotel and Procolinos Italian Eatery are joined by Against the Grain Bakery, the Inn at Osprey Point, Lemon Leaf Café, My Best Friend catering and Two Tree Restaurant who debuted at Taste of the Town 2011. Additions this year include Molly Mason’s of Kennedyville, the Kitty Knight House, and Chef Sabrina Sexton, of both New York City and Chestertown, who will pair with Colchester Farms to create an offering. A complete list of participating restaurants can be found at www.tasteofchestertown.com.
Keeping the focus local includes beer from returning 16 Mile Brewery and, new this year, wines from Cecil County’s Terrapin Station Winery. Beer and wine are available for purchase by the glass. Other event highlights include a raffle, live auction and Cookbook, Gardening and Art book sale. Auction highlights include custom gourmet dinners from several restaurants.
Taste of the Town is presented by the Downtown Chestertown Association, a non-profit voluntary membership organization of businesses and stakeholders in Chestertown’s historic downtown dedicated to supporting a thriving downtown environment while preserving a small town quality of life. The event benefits projects of the Association which include Curb Appeal, a downtown planting and beautification initiative.
Advance passes for Taste of the Town are available through Wednesday, April 25, and may be purchased online at www.tasteofchestertown.com, at The Finishing Touch, New York Kosher Style Deli and the Imperial Hotel in downtown Chestertown; other locations which may be seen on the website. The $15 advance pass is redeemed at the door for $15 in food tickets. Admission at the door is $15 for $12 in food tickets. Tasting dishes range from 1 to 3 tickets.
